These are a few of my Favourite Things

We all know the song... Sing along with me - and create your own version!

(I've missed a few things out.... well - let's be honest quite a lot.  My darling children... no recent photos - they've all reached that stage where they refuse to pose, may continue until they're 35.  Umm - cup-cakes, cooking in general, reading, gadgets, Aga! - ooh, I could go on.... but think the poetic genius :) would have dried up long before I'd finished).

Anything handmade, and artwork a plenty,

Applique picture - one panel from a garden quilt I designed

Skyscraper heels, boots and bags (more than twenty)

Yes - dreadful pic.  Apologies - couldn't face digging everything out for photoshoot!

Car-boot sale finds, funky jewellery and bling,

Cushion will be revamped at some point - Manequin from Liberty window display

These are a few of my favourite things

Hanger was car-boot find - no idea what it was designed for originally

Boxes of fabric, things sewing related,

(Before sewing room revamp - WIP!)

Craft online shopping and stuff I've created.

Baby blue carry-around machine - and my latest envelope needlecases

This is why I need to sort my sewing room - this is my dining table!

Dogs, cats and sunshine, rock music to sing,
Misty - a dear cat, who we believe was stolen
Bumble, Buster & Daisy.
These are a few of my favourite things.

Makes me feel quite glad

Playing the fool and not acting my age,
And suddenly life's not bad.
Um - Early afternoon New Years Eve - wore those 50p Primark "must-have" glasses all day.
I don't think Byron or Keats have much to worry about, but it was fun to think up.

I swear this took longer to post to blogger than it did to write and take the photos!  Honestly - sometimes it takes the fun right out of blogging.  You can waste an age, trying to get things to look right.  I do hope it's not just me?  I'd be very interested to know if anyone else has problems with posting.  My bugbear is getting halfway through a post, and suddenly it decides to take matters into it's own hands and start placing everything in random places.  Grrrrr.  I've given up with trying to get the print all the right size today, it simply won't play.  Stamps foot.  Heads off for coffee machine.  Rant over.

  2. A nice read with my cuppa; it's new p**ing down in Essex.

My bugbear with Blogger is the posting photos from a Mac (I don't recall the same problem when I used to use a PC) and being able to put photos where I want them and not having to have them all at the top of the blog and, of course, having to remember to upload them in reverse order to how I want them to appear. Hopefully the new Blogger editor will be a bit of an improvement, but it's early days yet.

  5. I write my post in new editor, switch to old editor and add my photos ('cos they will not add in new editor), realise I can't check my spelling or add links or anything there, wait till I've added the photos, change back to updated editor and edit my post! Blogger is not one of my favourite things!

Your song was good fun though!

Hexagon hand-towel

A super quick make this afternoon - a hand towel for the kitchen.  I had no idea I was going to do this until I was rummaging through my fabric stash and found this piece of heavy linen that has been forgotten for years.   It's the perfect weight for a hand towel and I've managed to use up a few more scraps to match the colours of my kitchen. The little piece of aqua fabric is one of my favourites.  Had it for years and my supply has been dwindling, finally down to the last little piece.   It was a quick pin-down and run along with the machine. As you can see, a close inspection of my hexagon shows rather uneven stitches.   I blame it on my eyesight (and sewing whilst watching the TV).  Pinned into place and then edged around carefully with the machine.   I've even managed to add a little loop which is the tiniest scrap of ribbon I spied in the corner of my sewing table just as I was stitching to the corner.... I'll have that...

Hillarys Blinds - Country Crafts Competition

A vision in Teal - front view Towards the end of February I saw a competition advertised on Twitter by Hillarys Blinds .  I can't remember the exact wording, but it was along the lines of "would you like to receive some material and enter our competition?" Of course I would! After sending an e-mail, I was delighted to hear I'd been chosen to take part.  I was able to pick from 3 fabrics.  I opted for the peacock print as I adore teal.  About a week later I received a packet from Hillarys containing a metre of my chosen material.  I wish I could get the colours to come out properly.  I don't think any of the photos I've taken do the fabric justice.  The background is a light cream, with the branches and blossom in subtle shades of brown and pale yellows.  Sitting on the branches across the fabric are a selection of beautiful peacocks.  In shades of teal, they are quite wonderful. Once upon an Embroidery

This story takes place many years ago. Imagine we are at a time in the gentle years before the Great War. In a time where the motor car was a recent invention and a plaything for the very rich, seldom to be seen on a public road. This was an era when people worked hard and expected little. An era when life was lived at an altogether slower pace. Let me introduce you to Alice. Alice is a gentle soul. She has never strayed far from the village where she was born. She has spent her adult life living in the same little cottage she moved into with her husband as a newlywed when she was 19. At one time she was surrounded by family, but over the years they have all passed on or drifted away. Her husband died shortly after his retirement three years previously, and her only remaining sister lives half the country away. They correspond regularly by weekly letters, but haven't seen each other in years. It would be possible to travel by train, but it's altogether too expensiv...
