Cajame's Handy Sewing Tips - Chap. 1

 1.   To ensure productivity, take frequent short breaks from your sewing.
Utilize this time by trawling craft-related blogs and/or tweets.
(One hour plus is the suggested minimum).

2.   Take great care to ensure you do not sew your make to yourself.
This is both highly irritating and extremely easy to do,
(and is a total and utter bastard when machining).

3.   Ensure the whereabouts of your needle at all times.
(or your arse will find it for you).

4.   Constantly scan your sewing location for predators.
Practice evacuation techniques*, in the event a dog/cat/toddler enters the 5
     metre exclusion zone.
     *remember....  holler, grab, run.

5.   When sewing disaster strikes... pick up said project & hurl it violently at
the wall whilst at the same time shrieking obscenities.
     Thus achieving two aims:-
     i)   It will safeguard the dog from being kicked.
ii)  Your neighbours will think you're insane, thus avoiding you... therefore
freeing up more valuable  sewing time.

6.   Give up all pretence of doing any housework.  It will still need doing
     tomorrow and...
no-one thanks you for it anyway.

7.   Leave bits of fabric/thread/tools lying about at every opportunity, thus
enabling your family to share in your creative genius.
At the very least this may ensure they acknowledge your existence.

8.   Be carnally creative.
One 5 minute unexpected but strategically placed sexual act will reap an
average of 5 hours gloriously un-interrupted sewing time.

9.   Want some new material or sewing gadget?
Know he'll moan about it and/or hates shopping?
Find it on Ebay & tell him it's a fantastic bargain.  Leave him to it, then
sit back and relax whilst awaiting the arrival of the postman with eager
     anticipation.

10.  Turn the spare bedroom into your studio and put a bolt on the door.
All that gorgeous creative space - and it's all yours.
Plus.... lack of bed = no visitors = more time to sew.

Hexagon hand-towel

A super quick make this afternoon - a hand towel for the kitchen.  I had no idea I was going to do this until I was rummaging through my fabric stash and found this piece of heavy linen that has been forgotten for years.   It's the perfect weight for a hand towel and I've managed to use up a few more scraps to match the colours of my kitchen. The little piece of aqua fabric is one of my favourites.  Had it for years and my supply has been dwindling, finally down to the last little piece.   It was a quick pin-down and run along with the machine. As you can see, a close inspection of my hexagon shows rather uneven stitches.   I blame it on my eyesight (and sewing whilst watching the TV).  Pinned into place and then edged around carefully with the machine.   I've even managed to add a little loop which is the tiniest scrap of ribbon I spied in the corner of my sewing table just as I was stitching to the corner.... I'll have that...

Button Up

I have a bit of a thing about buttons.  Memories of childhood and rooting through my Gran's button tin. Sadly I've now used most of the vintage ones that belonged to my mother and grandmother - but the fascination still remains. So I thought today I'd have a button day, and share some of the latest lovely makes I've discovered.   by Amanda Meadon on Folksy How charming is this little picture?  Simple, colourful and quite pretty by Saphire Moon on Crafster  Not sure what these are... cuffs?  Loving the way the colours blend What a fabulous necklace.  The colours!  And some of those buttons are amazing.  Found this on Pinterest, but sadly there is no link. by Mike Smith on Folksy  A fabulous piece of button art.  What a fantastic idea from Homedit.com     A little bit in love with this lampshade - and so easy too! Valentine Kisses

It's not long to February 14th now - so today I am sharing some vintage Valentine graphics.  As you know, as these are vintage artwork pieces, they may be freely used in whatever project takes your fancy.  If you feel inspired by any of these items, do pop over to the  Graphics Fairy  website.  Here you can find oodles more vintage loveliness.  Every day a new vintage piece is shared..... it really is a great blog to follow. Here's a few more of my Valentine favourites..... The three images above would be perfect printed onto stout card stock and threaded together to form a vintage banner.  How lovely to place in the window of a period property.  Or even better, printed onto fabric, and sewn onto a length of pretty lace.  Beautiful! Such a gorgeous little picture.  The original may be a lot larger, so it's worth checking with  Graphics Fairy  if you like this image.  There are so many items on th...
