Introducing my new pillow pattern.............  Sugar and Spice

A charming pillow consisting of paper-pieced cupcakes, surrounded by the childhood rhyme of "Sugar and Spice and all things nice, that's what little girls are made of".

With gingham cup-cases and pastel icing, each cake has been decorated with  embroidery.


There are two versions of swirly icing, and one that looks as though it's been sprinkled in hundreds and thousands.


Simply quilted, the envelope style pillow back is in two of the fabrics used - with the addition of Sugar and Spice across the fold of the opening.


With little yo-yo's as the cherries on the top of the cake, and  matching binding completing the outer edge, this is a reasonably quick project to complete.  Suitable for all levels of sewing skill, and possible for anyone who is capable of sewing a straight line.  The paper-pieced cupcakes may be sewn by machine or hand, making it a pleasant portable project. 

Measuring 19 inches square, the finished cushion is cute, large, cuddly, and the perfect accessory for a girl who loves cup cakes.  (The cushion pads are readily available online at a very reasonable cost).

The pattern, which will be available on Folksy will be £6 including postage.  The pattern includes templates for the paper-piecing, ready to trace wording and full instructions.

Autumn Giveaway Time

I'm more than a trifle ticked off with Blogger. My post of yesterday has vanished into thin air during the day - and I haven't been near a computer. Valentine Kisses

Hillarys Blinds - Country Crafts Competition

A vision in Teal - front view Towards the end of February I saw a competition advertised on Twitter by Hillarys Blinds .  I can't remember the exact wording, but it was along the lines of "would you like to receive some material and enter our competition?" Of course I would! After sending an e-mail, I was delighted to hear I'd been chosen to take part.  I was able to pick from 3 fabrics.  I opted for the peacock print as I adore teal.  About a week later I received a packet from Hillarys containing a metre of my chosen material.  I wish I could get the colours to come out properly.  I don't think any of the photos I've taken do the fabric justice.  The background is a light cream, with the branches and blossom in subtle shades of brown and pale yellows.  Sitting on the branches across the fabric are a selection of beautiful peacocks.  In shades of teal, they are quite wonderful.
